Yes, it is a wonderful movie and is a great novel by John Irving.

I read the novel by John Irving from cover to cover on a 4 hour flight from Chicago to Las Vegas right after it was first published. I was so engrossed I couldn't put it down. It felt as if the flight had only taken 10 minutes when the plane was landing. I loved the movie, too, when it came out.

I still can't believe Robin Williams is gone.

Generally, I do not like the movie adaptations of novels. But in this case, I think the movie is as good as the book.
Robin "was" Garp.

We will have him in our memory.

For some reason I've never read the book. I should try and find a copy of it.

I do not know your preferences in books, but I highly recommend you read it.
John Irving is special, Robin Williams too.
